Grant is out

Filed under: Chelsea — Brian @ 7:37 am

No real surprise to many that Avram Grant has been sent packing from Chelsea. Most people have said that even if Grant wins he would be fired. However it was offered to Grant that he could return to his previous role at Chelsea under Mourinho’s watch, but Grant decided to turn that down and off he went back to Israel. We’ll have to see where is shows up again, now for who will show up at Chelsea and manage is up in the air right now, there have been some names thrown around on who might come in but we’ll find out that soon also.

Women’s USA team out of the World Cup

Filed under: World Cup, U.S. Soccer — Brian @ 11:48 am

The US womens team fell out of the 2007 World Cup competition today after a defeat to Brazil in a 0:4 match. I really was hopeful with the womens squad this World Cup but Brazil is very tough as we so found out.
Brazil and its superstar musician Marta place on an eye-popping operation against the Americans and cruised to a 4-0 triumph in the semifinals Thursday, ending the U. S. undefeated streak at 51 games and sending the Brazilians into their best championship match, against Germany on Sunday. Brazil went forward on an own-goal in the 20th hour, and Marta made it 2-0 shortly after. Cristiane and Marta added goals in the second half, with Marta becoming the tourney’s leading scorer with seven goals. The US played the closing 45 min with 10 players after mid-fielder Shannon Boxx was sent off the pitch in Hangzhou, China in first-half extra time for a controversial second yellow card.

The Financials of Arsenal FC

Filed under: Site Detail, Arsenal — Brian @ 5:23 pm

The annual financials were recently just released for the Arsenal FC and for any supporter of that club it comes as good news. The club as turned a huge profit of over $100M (50M pounds) and revenue of over $400M (200M pounds). This is almost more than any other European football club. Not only that but Wenger has been told he now has $140M in his transfer budget. Wow!
So I’m thinking that Arsenal might have a new number 1 come the January transfer window. Anybody want to take a stab at who the possible goalkeepers might be on Wenger wish list?

Jose Mourinho quits! or fired??

Filed under: Site Detail, Chelsea — Brian @ 9:01 am

WOW, well not exactly surprised, but then kinda surprised. I heard that Jose had some kind of argument just recently with Abramovich. But again was played down, we all knew something just wasn’t right with the personal conflicts at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea moved quickly to replace Mourinho with Chelsea’s own Director of Football Avram Grant. Maybe Jose Mourinho will move over to Tottenham and replace Jol ??

Tottenham 1:3 Arsenal

Filed under: Premiership, Arsenal — Brian @ 11:02 am

Tottenham took the lead within the first 15 minutes of the match off a brillant free kick from Bale. However the fantastic football being played by Wenger’s Arsenal was spectacular with three well desired goals coming in the 2nd half. Adebayor scored two goals the first off a header from a corner and his 2nd (3rd goal) was a stunning half turn strike. The number two goal came in the 80th minute from Cesc Fabregas with a bullet of a strike. Fabregas has so far been turning out to be Arsenal’s leading goal scorer, a much needed change from his performance last season but what people have expected of him. Arsenal as of this time lead the table and still have a game in hand. Go Arsenal!!

Women’s 2007 FIFA World Cup gets under way

Filed under: World Cup — Brian @ 6:07 pm

With the Women’s USA team in probably the toughest group one could put together. And their first match against Korea DPR proved this point. Considering it was a very wet rainy day for playing football I think the USA got away lucky with just the 2:2 draw. Korea played very well and took advantage of all their chances they made. The USA had a hard time getting a rythmn going. The USA did put it a good showing for their first match, I am looking forward to more and hope they do well.

But have you seen some of these first round scores? It is crazy, Germany over Argentina 11:0 !

Germany over England in the ‘Friendly’

Filed under: Site Detail, World Football — Brian @ 5:58 pm

Final, Germany 2-1 England. Frank Lampard’s best global finish for 12 months had raised hopes of an uncommon house gain against the older foe. Unfortunately, on a night of experiment and planning, the positives gained from a heartening operation which deserved best than the ultimate outcome, will be overshadowed by Robinson’s woes. The Tottenham human talented Kevin Kuranyi Germany’s equalizer with a wretched error and nothing during his 45-minute show suggested anything new than that his successor, vet David James, should be installed when Israel chief to Wembley on September 8 for a game manager Steve McClaren has already described as ‘must-win’ if England are to hit Euro 2008.

Manchester City’s boss back at work

Filed under: Site Detail, Premiership — Brian @ 5:54 pm

Manchester City chief Sven-Goran Eriksson is determined to take in a successor for injured striker Valeri Bojinov. Bojinov had simply been on the area for six minutes before he sustained the wound in a collision with United protector Patrice Evra and now the 21-year-old is facing a leading fight to beat any region in the rest of the effort.

Man Utd over Chelsea in the Community Shield

Filed under: Site Detail — Brian @ 7:31 pm

Chelsea did not look very good in this match at all, no defense or really any aggressiveness at all. I mean I know it is a charity friendily but whoa… I don’t like to see matches come down to penalty kicks but this was probably the most entertaining penalty shootout I’ve seen. 3-0 Manchester United in penaties, amazing, United’s keeper did not let one penalty go into the net.
